The danger of a gradual transition to an economy with ever-increasing centralized and collectivised control of production is due not only to political developments within Sweden. It is also concerned with our possibilities of quickly escaping a troublesome situation and returning to a balanced long-term growth in our economy.
The Swedish economy has for some time been in crisis, the most serious one since the early 1920’s. This may be due partly to an exceptionally deep and enduring international recession and to more profound structural changes in the Swedish economy.
This publication gives a survey of some studies of the Swedish economy and the options open to its policy makers.
